متن کاملJa n 19 98 Interpretation of the Siklos solutions as exact gravitational waves in the anti - de Sitter universe
The Siklos class of solutions of Einstein's field equations is investigated by analytical methods. By studying the behaviour of free particles we reach the conclusion that the space-times represent exact gravitational waves propagating in the anti-de Sitter universe. The presence of a negative cosmological constant implies that the 'background' space is not asymptotically flat and requires a 'r...

متن کاملAlma: Galaxies and Agn
With the ability to see into optically obscured regions with more than an order of magnitude better sensitivity and spatial resolution relative to current (sub)mm telescopes, ALMA will provide a unique look into the physics of galaxy formation and active galactic nuclei. In this paper I summarize the ALMA potential for studying star forming galaxies and active galactic nuclei from the nearby un...
متن کاملStudying Galaxy Evolution with Spitzer and Herschel Cup Conference Series, Vol. **volume**, 2006 Extragalactic Science with Herschel-spire
SPIRE, the Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver, is one of three instruments to fly on ESA's Herschel Space Observatory. It contains a three-band imaging photometer operating at 250, 360 and 520 µm, and an imaging Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS) covering 200-670 µm. It will be used for many extragalactic science programmes, a number of which will be implemented as Herschel Key Project...
